Finished cleaning all but four of the seventeen perennial beds-a spring ritual. So many of my subjects for still life photography come from my gardens from May until October. The trout lilies are always the first to bloom in the woods on the north side of Rauhallinen Farm. In the gardens, oriental poppies will be the first of the large flowers to bloom and are a majestic orange with black interiors. I am going to grow vegetables on the patio this year in containers-bush beans, bush zucchini, and tomatoes. Some more pines to plant in the backyard and everything is pretty much filled, after buying the farm seven years ago when it was minimally landscaped. It has been a work of love and art in progress. Rauhallinen Farm will be 100 years old in 2020. Thinking about how to celebrate her first century here in the northwoods.
