The weekend is approaching in the far Western Upper Peninsula, with more snow projected for Sunday, but a warming period. Always a worry for our roofs, during which time, rain can back up under shingles. I am excited about trying my hand at developing color reversal film for the first time this weekend (Fujichrome Velvia 50). I have had great success with Kodak Portra 160 with its more muted color spectrum, but there are times when saturation works well. I think in low light, the 50 asa of Velvia will negate the need for a neutral density filter to get moving water to look suggestively blurred. In four decades of this love, I have never tired of trying new films, developers, and ways of seeing. This romance with making images has outlasted many other interests (and people) and serves as a perfect path to mindfulness for me.
