A tumultuous blizzard in the far Western Upper Peninsula and I will not be getting out to work tomorrow morning. Seven foot drifts in the backyard, six foot drifts in the driveway, and I will be moving snow all day on Monday. 60 mph winds which have not stopped all day, so it would be a waste to move snow until it stops. The Finnish word SISU is often used to describe the spirit of local residents for a reason. If you dont have determination to live in an environment like this, you perish or move. I love the character of the people here and they will help you with anything in a moment, whether you are a native Yooper or not.
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
