A raging winter storm today and this evening in the Western Upper Peninsula next to Lake Superior in Gogebic County. I just finished blowing about 16 inches of snow out of the driveway an hour ago and it looks like it is nearly filled again and drifting with heavy wind. Whether or not I can get out to get to work tomorrow is yet to be seen. Living out of town and in the country near the big lake means that the county snow plows come this way last. One of the things that has always impressed me the most about the native population here is there tenacity to endure climatic and geographic hardships while keeping a positive attitude and sense of humor. My kind of people. Our annual cross country ski race here is aptly named SISU-the Finnish word for stoic determination, tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness .
