This shot managed to get me a tad wet, as when I stepped off of US-45 onto the snow covering the ditch, I sank up to my….Difficult to get out when your legs are immobilized in snow and you are holding a tripod and mounted Hasselblad in front of you, not wanting it to have the same outcome as you. Shift weight, wiggle, and pull….the recipe for self-extraction. The smarter alternative is to wear the snowshoes.
The Intrepid 4x5 Camera arrived today from England after a long wait. I was very unhappy with the quality of the 8x10 I received from them, when upon initially unboxing it, the gearing would slip when racking the front standard in and out. I returned it and ordered the 4x5 instead. The quality on this model is just fine. They are made out of birch plywood, are very inexpensive, and are billed as the lightest large format cameras available. This 4x5 is so light you can lift and carry it with one finger. For me, this means being able to shoot large format deep in the wilderness, without being exhausted carrying a load worthy of a mule. In fact, I will be able to carry it, three large format lenses, and the Hasselblad together without issue. The Xtra Large F64 backpack fits even more. And lastly, being made of birch plywood, the last thing I will worry about is preserving cosmetics.
