My great grandparents migrated to this Keweenaw Peninsula town in the 1890’s from Montreal, Quebec to work in the Copper Mines. They left during the big strike of 1913-1914 and moved to Detroit for the burgeoning auto industry. That is my claim to my Yooper roots, aside from living here for the past 8.5 years. I am sure this building and door were here when they were (and in better condition). Everything about the Keweenaw is an antiquity-from the mining homes and structures to the storefronts. If you love antiques-this is your place. It is the land that time forgot (when the mines closed).
