Spring in the Northwoods is an emotionally unstable visitor who comes and goes most unpredictably from year to year. About six or seven years ago, I had my grandson here on his Easter break and we were wearing short sleeves and collecting rocks on Lake Superior at Little Girls Point. If we ventured there now, the icebergs are still present and it may snow 4-6 inches this weekend. My least favorite time of the year. If weather allows, I am going to drive the Ice Road from Bayfield Wisconsin out to Madeline Island, which unlike Mackinaw Island, allows cars via ferry. It is a very large member of the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior, measuring 14 miles long and 3 miles wide. Time to give the Rolleiflex and perhaps the 4x5 Pinhole another workout. The ice is checked multiple times daily and the ice road is closed once it is deemed unsafe. About 300 people live on Madeline Island.
