My brother and I spent the day photographing in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness in bitter temperatures and intermittent snow flurries. We first visited my beloved Union River Gorge, where he had never been before, followed by a long hike up to the Lake of the Clouds viewing area (as the road was closed for the season). He leaves tomorrow, but I will be gone before him, as I have to leave for Mayo Clinic at 0400 for my six month post operative follow-up for my shoulder replacement. Will be a long day with 12 hours of driving to get back to Rauhallinen Farm by six or so. We had a nice weekend. He will be back in mid February to do the Book Across the Bay Cross County Ski event in Ashland, during which time we will ski across Lake Superior’s Chequamegon Bay to Washburn, WI, east a chili dinner outdoors, and take a charter van back to the Toyota in Ashland. Draws a huge crowd each year of over four thousand skiers and the entire course for the 6.2 miles across the bay is lit by 1000 candles. Should be a blast.
“Oh, am I glad to know that after all these years it still is hard trying to unlove someone; if there's such a thing...”
