A very difficult day emotionally for me, but I had to keep it in and demonstrate a calm presence. Hard to describe how difficult it is to know you may quite likely lose your close friend to cancer in a short bit, that he will suffer even more, and that there is not a fucking thing you can do other than be there. We spent all day cutting out one of three windows left to cut out in the log home. There are many tumors in his lungs and his liver is completely full, so his stamina has been greatly affected in just a short time. Cutting through big logs with a chainsaw ahd having to be completely accurate within close tolerances takes two people. He is an amazingly talented builder and desinger and I always learn by working with him. His design business just won a bid on a multi-million dollar very large mansion in Florida. It broke my heart to hear him say to me that he was going to get this log home done, even if he only lives a short time, enough for him to spend one night in it. He and Sharon have worked day and night for the past seven years from the ground up, including cutting the logs on their sawmill, in addition to all lumber used. road built to it, etc.. It is a beautiful place on 40 acres that borders the Jumbo River. Day at a time.
