Benny came very close to getting sprayed by a skunk walking down the south fenceline yesterday morning. The skunk looked just as big as he, so it would have been a horrid disaster. He did not see the critter and came in when I opened the sliding glass door and then I noticed him ambling along from east to west, having a good old morning stroll. Anyone who has owned a schnauzer knows what would have happened had Benny knew he was behind him. The racoons and skunks in the UP are massive. I have a patient who has had three porcupine/dog episodes on his farm so farm this year. Rather than spend $300 at the vet, he straps the dogs muzzle shut and uses pliers to de-quill. I don't even like to think about that. Lots of chores to do today, including cleaning the carpet in the family room and dining room, staining the wood on the interior of the new sliding glass door, cut one section of lawn and the woods trail, answer some email and write some cards, and hopefully go for a bike ride. Never bored.
