Next to backpacking or plain hiking in the woods, joining dad in the boat for a fishing trip is on top of the list for fun. Benny is so used to the routine, once the boat is unloaded and moored at the dock and I return the RAV4 and trailer to the parking area, if the lot is car and people free, all I have to do is open the car door and tell him to "get in the boat!", which produces a 100mph dash to the dock and one leap to the front seat. I guess we are both creatures of habit well suited to each other. Now that he is aging, he is less likely to do what he did a few years back and take a leap out of the boat at 25mph when we passed some geese. From his startled look, it appeared he forgot he was on water and just intended to run the bastards down. The Gile Flowage is the closest thing you will find to a typical Canadian Shield Lake found north of Wawa Ontario here in the Northwoods. Simply beautiful.
"Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods."
