Was always my bestie's fave. I remember going to a Robert Mapplethorpe exhibit in Chicago, just after he died of AIDS and seeing his Hasselblad rendition of many flowers, including the Calla in Black and White. Quite an evocative and sensual plant. I hope you have the best of Sundays.
"A flower knows, when its butterfly will return, and if the moon walks out, the sky will understand; but now it hurts, to watch you leave so soon, when I don't know, if you will ever come back."
Long before Pat Metheny's partnership with Lyle Mays, he and Lyle played with Joni Mitchell, including the infamous bass player from the renowned jazz group, Weather Report-Jaco Pastorious (who was sadly killed in a bar brawl many years ago) and Michael Brecker, who was part of Steely Dan for many of the early albums. Here is some live concert footage with Joni, Pat, Michael, and Jaco performing some of my favorite tunes of hers. She is still recovering from a brain aneursym which hospitalized her for much of 2015. She was such a pretty woman and one time girlfriend of Graham Nash of the Hollies and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. If you are a guitarist, good luck figuring out her alternative tunings and guitar work-incredibly complex. No wonder she picked young Pat to work on this tour with her. Grab your Sunday morning coffee and enjoy the concert to start your day.
