We came across this small enclave of maple on the Lake Superior Trail during your visit to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness some years ago. It was momentarily fascinating, due to the gnarled and twisted shapes, almost looking like live oak of the sourthern US. A place I have yet to return for multiple reasons.
