We were always drawn to this courtyard, that while only yards from the bustle of Michigan Ave. and the Gold Coast of Chicago, offered a peaceful sanctuary to photograph and immerse in conversation. Of course, there was Borders Books, the Soup Box for lunch, the Art Institute, Millennium Park, Central Camera, Helix Photographic Supplies on Racine, the Lakeshore walkway, and an assundry of other spots connected by thousands of joyful footsteps over the years.

Somewhere on West Division Street
Put a bottle beneat' my head
n' a bottle beneat' my feet."
Nelson Algren, "Never Come Morning"
