Discovering Lost Creek Falls, Southwest of Cornucopia, WI was a plus for adding another photographic and snowshoeing destination this winter. The trail is 1.5 miles into the falls from the parking area, which itself, is only a few miles from Cornucopia on Lake Superior (on the Northern edge of the Apostle Island Chain. As with anyplace else in the Northwoods in the Fall, there were quite a few hikers that made the trek back on a lovely crisp day. I was a bit worried seeing four cars in the parking lot that I would have trouble with idiots getting in the way, as setting up and using the view camera is a process that requires exacting attention. Not a problem, everyone was very cooperative and gave me the distance I needed. Answered all the usual comments and questions...."Wow that must be a very OLD camera....No, only a couple of months....". One more knowledgable and interested older gentleman asked if I was shooting wet plate collodion, then requested I take he and his wife's pic in front of the falls with their cell phone, which I was happy to do. All nice folks, which is not always the case. My one day of the weekend for doing things just for me, with no chores or stores.
Come live with me and be my love, And we will all the pleasures prove, That valleys, groves, hills, and fields, Woods, or steepy mountain yields. Christopher Marlowe
An apropos song for this time of the year, which was on the last stellar Fleetwood album when I was an undergraduate. Everything since has been pop shit.
