If the weekend weather holds out, Benny and I will be backpacking for a 20 mile round trip excursion on the Big Carp River Trail in the Porcupine Wilderness State Park. The trip will initiate from the Lake of the Clouds parking area and begin a tremendously beautiful climb down the escarpment trail and Big Carp River Trail to the floor of the canyon. When we get to Shining Cloud Falls, we will decide if we want to spend the night there or go the rest of the couple of miles to the big lake and try to find an open campsite on the lake. As labor day typically marks the turning point in visitors, I am hoping we don't have too much competition for a tenting spot. Never a problem in the Trap Hills on the North Country Trail, but I am saving that beauty for the spectacular Fall colors that the Norwich Bluffs afford.
