Benny and I completed a 20 mile/2 day trip in the Trap Hills, leaving from Norwich Bluffs and headed towards Old Victoria to the East. We both had a a substantial workout (as I write I can hear him snore on the couch across from me, legs extended straight up in the air). The weather was perfect with 60's in the daytime and low 40's at night. I should have brought the warmer bag instead of my summer bag, but the four legged fellow helped keep heat in the bag and make it tolerable. We jumped six grouse on the way back, with Benny setting one perfectly. Too bad he is scared shitless of guns and fireworks, or he could be trained to be a good grouse dog. Grouse season opens Tuesday and I will be out Saturday to my usual spots sans a bird dog.
