The stove has taken the chill out of the old stone house. With walls over two feet thick, it holds the heat well enough for a near 100 year old two story structure from days gone by. Benny and I are approaching our third winter at Rauhallinen Farm. I have my techniques down, from cutting and storing wood to snow removal. Looking forward to a few weekends in early October to travel with the Canon to catch color (Lake of the Clouds, Keweenaw Peninsula, etc.). I put in a vacation request today for the first two days in October off for the start of archery season for Whitetail Deer here. I will hunt deer here behind the farm in the early morning, grouse hunt in the Ottawa Forest mid-day, and return home to deer hunt late afternoon till dark.
"How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here."
