"May I a small house and a large garden have;
And few friends,
And many books, both true."
Drove down to Stoney Creek Garden Center in Minocqua, WI early this morning to purchase perennials for the new bed in the front yard. Buying mature plants is much more expensive than starting your own seedlings, but this time of the year there are many sales. I was to have this bed done in the Spring, but the lobectomy put my schedule amiss. To remove the sod from the 5 x 12 bed and acquire and spread topsoil with the trailer was a two day job in hot weather.The plants were put in when the sun went down and watered generously, so as not to stress them in this heat. The remaining task, which is long and burdensome, is to go back to the woods behind the farm and unearth enough large rocks to line the bed like the others in the front. I am estimating 60 of 7 inch diameter. Sometimes I think I have hauled so many things with my two wheeled barrow (dirt, rock, deer feed, etc), it should be an appendage soon.
