One of the first and most delicate wildflowers to bloom along the southern fenceline at Rauhallinen Farm. So lithe, they last only a few days at best. If you are going to harvest some to photograph, you will need to get them early and/or have the deft hands of a surgeon. Benny, with his radar ears, started barking out the bedroom window next to my head at 1 A.M. this morning. Propped up on my elbows thinking to see the usual white-tail walking down the drive to the west. and was greeted by a large (3-350 lb.) black bear, standing between the barn and woodshed, about 10 yards from the back door. Yelled at him and he dispersed. Went down to check on the bird feeders and the fence-both were ok and not disturbed. They are destructive and will tear up bird feeding stations to get to the seed. Thanks for the heads-up Mr. B.
