Busy weekend. Crazy wind today, for the second time this Spring. First time a few weeks back, it snapped a telephone type pole at the rear of the drive that had a night light on it . Winds in excess of 40 MPH. A gift from Lake Superior. Managed to collect and transport the rocks for two new perennial beds, one in front to complete a diamond design with four large beds. The other along the East side of the woodshed (the West side already had one). Also rebuilt the bird feeding station, replacing the 4x4x8 treated post that had cracked. Digging a two foot hole here in the Gogebic Range by hand is a war against rocks, big and small. Always chores waiting, but I don't sit well, so it works out. A small number of Pine Siskin remain, as well as Juncos, but both are headed back to the Arctic, where they mate and summer. This is an excellent time in the Northwoods to see rare birds passing through that have wandered outside of their normal migratory routes.
