This was our last trip together to the windy city in 2011. This shot brings back memories of that river cruise in the warm sun on an earlier summer with the architectural lecture and then a quick turn around in Lake Michigan. Getting up at 0400 to pack up the car and head North to the beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula in the morning. Always a captivating and emotional trip, knowing my family got their start in this country there in the 1800's. Emotional, as my daughter who died was named after the town where they settled-Laurium. Will photograph mining ruins, Central Mine architecture, Brockway Mountain Drive, and any other peice of landscape or architecture that calls to me while going up one coast to Copper Harbor and then down the other. I always take a moleskin notebook and pencil as the workings for a new poem or two seem to come easily here. I often meet some interesting locals on these excursions. A low of 21 this evening and snow. High of 38 tomorrow on the peninsula and colder yet up at Copper Harbor. Will bring a variety of clothing along with the camera gear and Benny. Hoping you and the girls have a wondeful day. You will be with me. On the way out to fill the woodstove and then bed.
Just getting ready to leave-snowing wet heavy stuff-about two inches on the ground. Benny went nuts rolling in it-he is a winter guy.
