Off the Grid

Reached 2F while photographing below Bond Falls on the Middle Branch of the Ontonagon River today. Benny has been continuously challenged this harsh winter with his paws on the ice-another cut paw pad and bleeding today-must get him boots. Stopped by my close friends, Tom and Sharon, just outside Trout Creek on the Jumbo River to see the progress on their log home and chat a bit on my way back. Tom is a licensed contractor and builder extraordinaire. This home is being built all by hand from local Red Pine (they have their own saw mill). Beautiful and secluded property. Sharon and their nephew, who was up from U of M on break, were planing lumber for the front porch. The UP has so many self-sufficient, off the grid folks....
