Papa and Aiden on top of Wolf Mountain

I was most blessed to have my five year old grandson, Aiden, for nine days, with just he and I. After losing his mom (my daughter) on July 5, we both needed this time to grieve together and heal. Like any five year old boy, he enjoyed the gift of a BB gun on the farm here, trout fishing, hiking, walking his dog and mine, etc.
I am most appreciative of this opportunity for us to be together. He reminds me so much of my son, Eric, at this age, both in physical appearance, and his indigenous curiosity of the natural world and wilderness.
He learned many wildflower names, trees, animals (was quite impressed with the nightly wolf and coyote songs that arrived through the bedroom window), and other phenomena of the Western Upper Peninsula. He boated and fished on Lake Superior, manning the 25 HP Johnson on his own, with little assistance. Life will never be the same for either of us, but it goes on, as do we, who are mandated to survive and determine a new path.
